Summer Adult Bible Classes - June2 - August 28:
Sunday Mornings
Auditorium - Christ in the Old Testament - taught by various speakers - In some of the most beautiful chapters of the entire Bible, the story of Jesus’ amazing birth is told. It is not merely the birth of a boy. It is the rending of the unseeable barrier that splits the spiritual and physical worlds. It is an invasion of heaven into hostile enemy territory. It is the single-most significant event that had ever occurred in history to that point; it literally split time into the time before it and the time after it. And, here is what we often forget, the story of that moment did not originate in a backwater Judean town in a stable on a cold dark lonely night. It had been foretold, anticipated, and prophesied for hundreds of years. This class tells that story, the story before the story - Christ in the Old Testament.
College/Young Adult Class – Room 6, - Developing a Personal Devotional Life taught by Jeff Darby - As I have gotten older (and older and older), I have often found myself thinking back on my younger days, my “young adult days” and reflecting on what I know now that I wished I had known then, and what I do now that I wished I had done then. While minoxidil usually makes the list for what I wish I had done then, the top of the list always includes a wish that I had dedicated effort to a deep and meaningful devotional practice back in these formative years. Maybe you have a great personal devotional life - great, we will learn from you. Maybe you are working one up presently - great, let’s help you. Maybe you don’t have one at all - great, roll up your sleeves and let’s get to it. Trust me, your much older self will be so grateful you did.
Wednesday Evenings
Auditorium - Lessons from the Lives of the Patriarchs taught by various speakers - Each week this summer, we will be introduced to a different personality from the pages of the Old Testament. So oftentimes these vibrant, passionate, flawed, and deeply relatable figures remain hidden in the “left hand pages” of our Bibles. Not so this summer; blow the dust off these long neglected and oft-forgotten stories, allow these men and women to take center stage in our minds and imagination and be ready to be shocked how much we can learn from their ancient lives about our own day. So many of their missteps and their victories have modern day corollaries that will help us step well and be victorious ourselves. Just as God used them, empowered them, and overcame their weaknesses to carry out His purpose, He can and will use their stories of old to do these same things for us today.
